Bob's Stores
Bob’s Stores began in 1954 and have always been committed to value – and they found it with SIGN Lite and new LED lighting for their large Bob’s signs. “Bob’s Stores changed over many of their signs from energy-draining lamps to energy-efficient LEDs,” said SIGN Lite President Elaine DeTulio. “The new signs are brighter and will need far less maintenance than lamps. They are a real win-win.” LED lights are about 80 percent efficient, versus incandescent lights at about 20 percent efficiency, and can have a life of up to 100,000 hours. The Bob’s sign pictured here is 18 feet tall by 25 feet wide.

SIGN Lite enhances rest stops along the Merritt Parkway
When the State of Connecticut decided to spend $178 million statewide to completely make over the 23 north- and south-bound rest stops along the Merritt Parkway, SIGN Lite was the company they chose for all of the signage.
“SIGN Lite was brought in to design, fabricate and install the sign program,” explained Mark DeTulio, one of the company’s owners. “These designs will be seen throughout this area for generations to come.”
The project, which includes expanded facilities and the addition of Subway and Dunkin Donuts, was announced in April and is scheduled for completion by spring, 2012. The Merritt Parkway, with its famous art deco bridges, is listed as a National Scenic Byway by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.

Solar-powered signs offer cost-free energy for area companies
Sign Lite is manufacturing and installing a solar-powered lighting system for a Wallingford, Connecticut business that will provide cost-free energy for many years with little to no service requirements. The project harnesses the sun's energy through three 80 watt LED light fixtures. The LED lights are powered by four 100 amp batteries charged by six solar panels that are virtually damage proof and vandal resistant. Lighting functions and charging are processed through an MPPT controller, timer wattage meter and photo cell that are all housed in an aluminum cabinet. The LED fixtures carry a five-year manufacturers warranty.

SIGN Lite receives award
Through their participation in United Illuminating’s Small Business Energy Advantage Program, SIGN Lite received an award for business leadership and environmental stewardship. The company was recognized for taking advantage of conservation programs from the Connecticut Energy Conservation Load Management Fund. SIGN Lite partnered with UI to retrofit all the lighting in its building to increase its energy efficiency. SIGN Lite also partnered with UI to buy a new energy-efficient air compressor as well as energy-efficient commercial air conditioners. President Elaine DeTulio estimates the changes have saved over $31,000 and 76,121 pounds of coal from being burned. “This was a win-win,” she explained. “We reduced the company’s energy use drain on the electrical grid and SIGN Lite received financial assistance from UI to install this new energy-efficient equipment.” Any companies interested in the details of the program can contact DeTulio for more information.
